Stop wasting time! Launching your Wix site successfully requires three focused steps: securing your domain, choosing the right plan, and hitting publish with confidence. This is the only checklist you need.
Step 1: Secure & Connect Your Domain 🏠
Your domain name is your brand's digital address.
Where to Buy Domain
Wix: Easiest option. Get a free domain for the first year with any Premium Plan.
External (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains): Provides more control. You'll need to link it to Wix later.
How to Connect Domain to Wix (Nameserver Method)
If you bought externally, you must point it to Wix's hosting.
Get Wix Nameservers: In your Wix account, go to Domains → Connect Domain. Wix gives you two specific nameserver codes (e.g., ns1.wixdns.net).
Update at Registrar: Log into your registrar and find DNS/Nameserver Management.
GoDaddy Action: Domain Settings → Manage DNS → Nameservers → Change → Select "Enter my own nameservers" → Paste Wix Codes.
Namecheap Action: Domain List → Manage → Nameservers dropdown → Select "Custom DNS" → Paste Wix Codes.
Wait: Allow up to 48 hours for the connection to finalize.
Step 2: Choose Your Plan & Build your Website
Essential Wix Plans (Prices are per month, billed annually)
You must purchase a Premium Plan to remove Wix ads, use your custom domain, and access critical features.
Website Plans (General Use, No Online Payments):
The Free Plan ($0/mo): Always available for building, but it displays Wix ads and you cannot use a custom domain. Unsuitable for professional use.
Light ($17/mo): For personal sites, portfolios, and basic pages. (Removes ads, custom domain).
Business & eCommerce Plans (Required for Payments & Selling):
Core ($29/mo): The entry-level business plan. Minimum required plan to accept payments.
Business ($36/mo): Designed for growing businesses.
Business Elite ($159/mo): For large-scale online retailers.
Wix Studio Tip: If you're using Wix Studio, your plan is flexible—you can easily move your subscription benefits to a different template/site without re-buying!
How to Build your Wix Website
Choose Platform/Template: Start with Wix ADI (for speed) or select a Wix Editor Template (for design control). If you are an experienced designer, consider starting with a Wix Studio Template for advanced features.
Content First: Replace all template text with your own. Focus on a clear Homepage and a strong Call to Action (CTA).
Check Mobile: Click the mobile icon and fix any overlaps or tiny text.
How to Launch your Wix Website
Hit Publish
Review Plan: Confirm you have a Premium Plan (and a Business Plan if selling).
Publish! Click the prominent Publish button in the editor.
Verify: Type your custom domain name into a new browser to ensure your site is live and secure (look for the padlock 🔒)
Jargon Simplified
SEO: The free process of optimizing your site to rank higher in Google search results.
CRM: Software (like Wix Ascend) that tracks every customer interaction in one central place.
Favicon: The tiny icon that appears in the browser tab, crucial for branding.
CTA (Call to Action): A button or link that clearly tells the user what to do next.
User Flow: The path a visitor takes through your website to achieve a goal.
Wireframe: A basic blueprint or skeleton sketch of a page layout.
Apps in Wix: Extra features you install from the Wix App Market to add functions without coding.
What's Next? Don't Launch Without This!
Publishing is only the first step. You need to tell Google your site exists and ensure your pages are optimized for search.
